Event - Volcano Disaster Day
28 September 2010
Year 3 and 4 children have launched their new topic - 'Disaster!'
The children arrived at school and were informed by their teachers that a local volcano was about to erupt. A disaster was imminent!
The children then had a talk about natural disasters from geologist, Ros Preston and had a mucky morning sculpting thier own volcanoes from clay. The highlight for many was mixiong bicarbonate of soda and vinegar to create thier own volcanic eruption!.
In the afternoon, the children took part in a disaster releif centre role play, where they became crisis managers, volcanologists, science lab technicians, newspaper reporters, film crew, doctors and victims of the eruption.
