Event - Stargazing Live
20 January 2012
Children from Year 2 to Year 6 packed into the hall on Friday afternoon for an exciting tour around the solar system with Dr Johanna Jarvis.
After learning about the planets and their moons a scale representation of our solar 'neighbourhood' was created in the hall with inflatable planets and helpful assistants.
On Friday night we began our Stargazing event - with standing room only in the school hall, Dr Jarvis began her tour of the solar system along with tips and advice on observing techniques and equipment. Despite the weather preventing an outside observation, children and adults alike were engrossed as she guided them around familiar and interesting points in the night's sky. We were given free BBC guides to the moon and star constellations and able to look at some very expensive telescopes.
Thank you to everyone who attended and a big thank you to the BSA for providing refreshments.
