Event - International Space Week

October 2009

'Space the final frontier. To boldly go where no man has gone before,' was the challenge given to pupils at school as we looked in depth at outer-space and space travel.

To encourage the children in their discoveries a space station was constructed in the library, complete with rock samples, alien identification charts and gravity experiments. Visiting pupils where asked to dress in space outfits to remove the risk of contamination on the return to Earth.

A highlight of the week was our grand space launch in which labelled helium balloons were launched into the stratosphere, following a whole school countdown – amazingly one of the balloons was discovered on a beach in the Netherlands by a German family, who sent us a postcard telling us about their find.
